Extra Curricular Activities

Swimming: We are fortunate to be able to take 8 over 3 year olds to the AquaZone swim club at Newtown School. This extracurricular activity is paid for by the parents. Capital Kids sends two staff with the children. AquaZone www.aquazone.co.nz structures its program according to the 4 school terms. The children attend a lesson of 30 minutes per week.  There are NO classes on public holidays.
Lessons cater for non swimmers through to stroke tuition and correction, by developing basic swimming skills. AquaZone’s aim is to develop confidence, swimming and water safety skills in a friendly, caring environment.

Gymnastic Classes: Children at the Centre have the opportunity to gain early Gym skills. We are delighted to be able to offer Gym Classes for our 3-4 year olds at the Centre one day a week from 2.00-2.45pm. We invite all the children in this age group who attend on a Monday to join these classes. Cost is $6.00 per class and will be charged on your account on a Term basis. The programme, (taught by fully qualified Gym teachers at Capital Gym in Newtown) will help them gain many of these invaluable life skills.

Excursions: As part of our programme we take our older children on regular excursions into our community. We also take our younger children out where practical too. These trips include regular nature walks; visits to our local maunga, awa and marae; visits to Te Papa; visits to the local gym, swimming pool and library.

Preschool Programme for our 4-5 year olds: This programme runs in conjunction with CKC’s general programme planning. There is a focus on the development of the school curriculum’s essential skills; and promoting individual curriculum goals, our centre philosophy and achieving the goals set in partnership between parents and teachers.

The programme is based as much as possible on real-life experiences with excursions playing an integral part of the programme. Teachers introduce literacy, numeracy, science and technology informally but intentionally through individual and group project work. We aim to support each child to see themselves as a confident and competent learner.
